Does more than games
Customer Rating:

Am no expert on games consoles and am judging this from the stand-point of a replacement for a DVD player and a home video, music and picture store. Will also own up to being over 55, so am also presumably not Sony's target age group, but hey-ho, am still enjoying it. The Blu-ray player is useful, but the choice of Blu-ray DVDs is still limited, and they are costly, but both should improve with time. The main reason for buying the PS3 was to play home videos, photos and music and this is where the big memory is useful. Am using HD quality Windows Media Video (.wmv) streaming files for home videos, which give near HD quality and are much better than standard (non HD) DVDs. It is also really convenient to have videos loaded on the PS3 which can be brought up with the remote. Don't yet have a Blu-ray burner on my computer which might be better still, and it would be useful for longer videos. The PS3 also does a great photo slide show with your choice of background music. There is a photo album feature but have not yet got anything from this. Controls and software are reasonably intuitive, they take a bit of getting used to but mastering them is half the fun. Download is by USB, which is slow, especially for the videos. An oh, it is also brilliant for karaoke. Go on, buy the flipping thing, you won't regret it.
