Editorial Reviews

The new Wii controls will bring an entirely new level of immersion and freedom to these milestone games, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Metroid Prime: Trilogy will offer the ultimate Metroid collector's item for all Metroid fans and those who are looking for the ultimate first-person action game.

  • One Disc, packaged in an exclusive sleeve, offering all three great Metroid first-person action titles but now all adapted to be played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
  • Players control Samus by moving with the Nunchuk controller and aiming with the Wii Remote controller, allowing for a level of immersion unlike anything they have ever experienced. It's a quantum leap in first-person control.
  • Samus employs well-known power-ups like the Grapple Beam and Morph Ball, as well as new surprises, to help her survive. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, players will be able to grasp and pull things by using actual arm movements, as well as execute amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair or at a full run.
  • Collect coloured badges throughout all three titles and swap them for extras.

A brilliant re-vamp of 3 classic games ... in 1!

If you've played any / all of the Metroid Prime games previously, you already know what they're like. Previously, I had played Metroid Prime 3 but missed out on the other 2 due not not owning a Gamecube at the time.

So, whats new? Well, all the games now use the brilliant motion control system that was pioneered in Metroid Prime 3. Also, Prime 1 & 2 have had thier graphics updated slightly and also now run in 16:9.

As a game, I find it's excellent. It's got plenty of action, but unlike other first person shooters, the puzzles in the game require some serious thinking to get around as well.

Obviously a must for the die-hard Nintendo fans, but also well worth a look if your after serious quality in a game. Obviously, it wont have the same graphical power as Call of Duty, (and despite this I think it looks REALLY good), but I always say that if a game is good enough, graphics don't really matter.

Excellent

Probably the best value for money purchase for any console. 3 classic games which have stood the test of time surprisingly well, a ton of bonus material and brand new control system for Metroid Prime & Echoes. Trust me, the combination of Wii remote and nunchuck feels really natural, after using it, playing FPS games on a normal controller just feels weird. Not that this is strictly a FPS there's loads of exploring to be done and all games present a really stern challenge.

Good Compilation For Newcomers

Metroid Prime Trilogy is remarkably good value, considering you're getting three games for the price of one. This is a worthy purchase for those who don't own the individule releases, however it's not worthwhile for those of us that do. Annoyingly, the first two Prime games, originally released on the Gamecube, have had their Gamecube controls replaced with the Prime 3 Wii controls. Now I realise the point of this release was to give these Wii controls to the Gamecube games, but giving players the option of both would have been better. Personally, I found Prime 1 and 2 much harder to control with the Wii controls, because they just weren't designed to be played that way. Other reviewers have noted that the graphics/textures from the Gamecube games aren't as good in the trilogy version, but I can't say I noticed myself.

*Update*

Nintendo have decided that Metroid Prime Trilogy will have a limited release, so I'm sure by the time you've read this review, it will no longer be available at a fair retail price. My advice would be to buy the original releases if possible. They should be available at a fair price, and the original Gamecube controls for Primes 1 and 2 are much better than the Wii controls.

A METROID UNIVERSE

The last Metroid games I had played was Metroid II - Return Of Samus and the absolutely exceptional Super Metroid on a borrowed SNES. I still have the music from when crossing the Red Soil in Brinstar as a ringtone in my cellphone. So, buying this trilogy was more of a compulsion for me however, it turned out to be a very smart idea.

For the price of a new game you get the three latest METROID PRIME games: Metroid Prime I, II: Echoes, & III: Corruption. METROID PRIME I and METROID PRIME II: ECHOES have been ported from the GameCube, with improved graphics and controls adapted to the Wii. METROID PRIME III: CORRUPTION is one of the best games ever designed directly for the Wii!

You can access any of the three games from the Menu and play any one of them interchangeably. I found I and III to be beautiful games, offering endless hours of fun whereas II was a bit darker but still a not-to-be-missed experience. It took me a while to master the controls (I am a seasoned PC gamer yet new to consoles) but once I started feeling comfortable with them I had to tear myself away from the game.

Since all of my previous Metroid experience was limited to side-scrolling games, stepping into the space boots (and sticky-ball) of Samus was a blast! Don't miss out on it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Haven't finished it yet.

...which is a good thing.

There are SO many hours of entertainment in this game, so it's easily worth the expense.

Last year I bought Metroid Prime - Corruption (number three in the series)just to have a look-see.

2 hours later I was hooked, so I've been waiting eagerly to the arrival of the trillogy, and it was worth the wait.

I admit there may be passages in the game that are a little slow, tending on boring. But hey! Even Legends of Zelda has those moments, and evey once in a while it's nice NOT to be attacked by plants, spirits, bugs, monsters, or poison, and just hop around from platform to platform. Graphics are good looking, artwork is really cool and detailed.

All in all this is a game that gives you many many hours of good fun.
