Summary: Not the best game ever, but still massively excellent.
Comment: Firstly, I only got this game a few weeks ago. And it's pretty cool (as an understatement).
/>
Single Player: this was the slight disappointment for me. COD4 on Veteran was genuinely
very difficult; WAW similarly, was actually a real challenge, even on Hardened. This is really,
REALLY easy. It's not a surprise, I suppose; after the success of the first game, IW wanted to make
this even more accessible- and in doing this, they've got rid of the difficult element that we had
in missions like 'One Shot, One Kill' in 4. Seriously, I completed about half the missions on
Veteran without dying once, and I wasn't even paying much attention. Although if you suck, then this
won't bother you.
Special Ops: this is genuinely a good idea. Admittedly, there are
one or two you can't do single player (the tragedies of not being terribly social) but they're
really fun, and you'll probably find yourself playing some of them again and again, trying to do it
in the quickest time. With 2 people, it's even more fun, as you can talk tactics and have fun taking
it far too seriously.
Multiplayer: Again, first class. All the PC gamers have been
kicking off about this, but they're just picky. My one slight gripe is that it's basically been set
up for assault rifles; sub-machine guns are all much more underpowered than they were in COD4, which
is a shame, because I liked using the MP5 inappropriately. Similarly, LMGs are much less widely
used, with the AUG HBAR the only one you can ever practically use for close combat. However, they've
sort of fixed this by giving you a much wider range of shotguns, which are amazing fun. The perks
system, which lots of people are annoyed about, is probably more balanced than in 4, in my opinion.
There's no Juggernaut, and most of the good ones (Stopping Power, Steady Aim, Bling, Sleight of
Hand, Ninja) are unlocked quite early on.
The customising of the guns is also much more
varied than 4 or WAW (silenced shotguns anyone?) but again, it's not so imbalanced it's noticable.
True, noobtubers are perpetual, but they're less powerful than previously, so I suppose, again, it's
sort of fixed. And with Prestiges, you can literally spend months on the multiplayer before you
could legitimately say you've 'won', as 10th prestige does take a while to get to...
/>Overall, this is a great game. For the price it is, it's amazing. Unless you're pathologically
allergic to fun, you really should get it.

Summary: Not all that it is cracked up to be.
Comment: >>If you have read my CoD WaW review, you'll know I slagged MW2 off ALOT. The truth is: It isn't AS
bad as I said in my other review it's just.... boring? repetitive? Short?
It is, in many ways,
all of those things. The campaign for instance is both short and repetitive. Online can become
boring and slightly repitive. Special ops, if played alot, can also become boring and
repetitive.
But despite this MW2 isn't terrible, it is just over rated. I am always prepared
to buy a game that isn't all that it was supposed to be and like it. But everyone said that it was
the greatest FPS and call of duty out there. It isn't, in my opinion, and I was disappointed, mostly
by how quickly I got done with the online and bored with special ops, which I played both alone and
with a friend. The campaign was great. Short but great. I re-play missions alot, in fact I'm
starting to play more camaign than online, and that surely isn't good for a game which has the best
onlie ever right (obviously in the genre of twitch gameing. Overall BFBC2 wins)? No, WaW is far more
entertaining in online and campaign. I'm giving you the bad parts of the game, which does, actually,
contain many great moments. For instance the end of the campaign is very well done, although knowing
that there will never be a MW3 made (A big thing between Infinity ward and Activision) is quite
horrible when watching the ending. This aside the ending is very well thought out, although would
have been more spectacular if the story had made more sense.
The deaths of characters is well
played out and can be quite sad when people you have worked with for some time get shot in the face.
It isn't as sad as your death in Call of duty 4: Modern warfare was much more emotional. The layout
of missions is also a bit rushed and quick, but doesn't really detract from the game itself. Some
missions you'll prefer to others, but all offer the same kind of objective: Get somewhere: Secure
hostages: blow something up: gt some data etc. Speaking of'The same kind of objectives'
ModernWarfare 2 is also very repetitive when it comes down to missions. The layout and and variety
leaves quite a sour taste in your mouth when finished. For instance: All of the missions, except a
few different ones here and there, are mainly set in streets or generally bland areas. Not much to
see - or sometimes - to do! Despite this, the campaign feels rather friendly compared to WaW's. It
gives us a break from more WWII and the scattered limbs and blood of WaW. It will be more familiar
to those of you who have played the first MW. I did wonder, though, why Infinity Ward decided to
make the story quite so Linear. A war against America and Russia. The first MW featured a rich and
unique story line with many great missions, but not only does Mw2 fail to deliver on variety, but
story aswell. It is, to be honest, an abismal attmept to make a thrilling and clever story. They
have basically taken two countries that don't really like eac other and made them go to war with a
twisted and confusing plot to do with betrayel and.... ummm.... sorry but I don't understand therest
of the story. I said right at the beginning that it wasn't as bad as I said in my other review yet I
seem to be slagging it off even more now. I just can't say how good the camaign missions and story
could have been. on the upside the missions are fun and offer plenty of new weapons and shooting,
plenty more. And the bonus mode, Museum is rather addictive to play, although can't really be
classed as a campaign mission as al it is is just killing your favourite people and worst enemies
in, well, a museum.
>>The camiagn is fun, but just could have been beter, and I often
wondered why I was killing the Favela gang or capturing an arms dealer.
For many though
Infinty ward struct a good cord with the online with some critics claiming it to be: 'Essential FPS
of the year, maybe even the decade,!' Which can be read on the back of your standard copy of MW2.
The online though felt to easy, as though Infinity Ward thought they didn't need to make changes to
it, which they did. Campers are still an annoying and big issue, causing many deaths, especially in
the made for camper, High rise and other Maps featuring tall buildind with lots of windows. Of
ourse, if you are a camper then you probably don't want it to change, but listen Infinity ward,
campers aren't players anymore, they're a problem. One that I hope Treyech have cleaned up inthe
upcoming Call of duty black ops. Still, lets just hope, for now, that enough people vote to skip
maps that are camper friendly.
>>Of course one of the great things about call of duty
is the weapons, and MW2 features many new and great ones, although they didn't keep enoughold ones
in, eevne just in multiplayer. A shame, but not a big problem, as you'l have fun modding plenty of
Submachine guns, assault rifles adn shotguns to your advantge. If you are the type of person to make
plenty of Custom clases beware that you can only make 5 in MW2. So your 3 favourite sniper rifles, 2
favourite machine guns, and 3 favourite assault rifles will have to be broken down to a mere 5
custom classes. Not a big issue for me, but for some it can be an annoying issue. That isn't the
only thing that is annoying about MW2's online though, kids with names like: >SuP0rSH00ter<786 can
be very annoying and can even prove a bigger issue than capers, who are at least playing the game,
not taking the micky out of you because you came 4 with only 17 kills or something.
Perks are
better than ever though, featuring over... well alot anyway. Alot of people complain about the
Juggernaut Perk. I didn't find any problems with this but other gamers might have trouble with it,
as, after all, if you shoot someone in reality, they die, they don't have 'Perks' or anything.
/>Perks are great fun equiping in custom classes and can help you, whilst not making you invincible.
>>The modes to play in MW2 are the same as CoD 5. All are are the same fun to play as
they were in CoD 5 although I do prefer the online genrally in WaW. Sabatage though, is the only
mode I really play in MW2. If you haven't already played it: DO! it is much better in this than WaW.
Teamwork is the key to success in this mode, it is just a shame the rest aren't so good. Modes like
this and free-for-all are much more enjoyable in MW2 than WaW, although the other game modes are
better in WaW.
Maps are vital in call of duty, and, again unforunetly, they also, like the
campaign, lack variety. Most are bland and boring, and this really shows in maps like wasteland.
Other maps can be purchased but I think i'll pass.
The actual gameplay online isn't AS good as
CoD 5 but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
>>Killstreaks are a great way of rewarding
people for killing different ammounts of poeple in a row and I want to thank the the man or woman
who thought of them in the first place but it is fair to say Infinity ward lost contol with all this
modern technology around and went about creating a stupid ammount of killstreaks. Some are very
clever and helpful for giving you the upper hand, but that is really all they're supposed to do
Infinity, not let you win immediately with a Tactical Nuke, which, if you don't know, ends the game
immediately with the team who earned the Nuke, winning. I have never encountered a match where a
Nuke has actually been used but why include it anyway? other Killstreaks are stupidly good aswell.
For instance the Harrier jest is earned by killing only 7 people in a row. I know I say 'only' to 7
kills, which is alot to do in a row, but some of the kids that play are very good and that to them
is easy.
Carepackadges are also a bad idea. I get a carepackadge, wait for it to drop, get
killed, someone else takes it. That is how it goes. I want back the simple: Recon plane, Artillery
and dogs thanks.
Of course alot of killstreaks are good, so long as the killstreaks are not
overpowering. Infinity ward did do a good job of letting you only have 3 killstreaks to earn out of
themany they have. For instance, an advanced, good player may choose to have: 5 kills, 7 kills and 8
kills, whereas a not so advancd player may choose to have: 2 kills, 3 kills and 5 kills etc. This a
great idea and would work perfectly if they removed some of the streaks and toned down how good they
were. SSomething I really don't understand is this: Say a not so advanced player choosedto have a
carepackadge killstreak, in the 3 killstreak area. He kills 3 people and then has to wait for it to
drop whilst making sure he doesn't die. If he can't get 5 kills he can't hold of 2-3 enemies making
sure he doesn't use the packade. How do they know he has a packadge incoming? It tells them! Where
it is aswell! That really doesn't work at all. A really bad idea, especially in Free-for-all where
EVERYONE is against you.
A good thing though is that you have to earn unlocks to unlock
better killstreaks. It doesn't take long to unlock them though so if you get it late you ill be
pitted against loads of people with better killstreaks.
>>The online is the main
atraction for many, but just doesn't cut it compared to COd 4 Or 5. But there is also a special ops
mode that allows you to play 24 mini missions solo or with a friend. These missions are good, but
aren't varied enough and are short and become boring. To unlock the next section of missions you
need to get a certain ammount of stars, which are earnt by completing ops on Regualr, Hardened and
Veteran. I particualrly enjoyed the sniper missions but there weren't many of these available which
I found rather annoying. There are plenty of other ops to keep you going though, from taking down
set ammounts of enemies, defending yourself from waves of enemies to stealthy sniper missions.
Again, alot of ops, but lacks variety. In my opinion Infinity Ward neede something to equel Nazi
Zombies, and they came up with special ops. Unfortunately there is much less re-playability here
when compared to the amazing Nazi Zombies.
>>A big disappointment in the special ops
department is having no online with someone else who has unlocked the same op as you. You can play
online but only with friends. Disappointing and strange it wasn't included.
Special ops are
good for a pass time but as a main feature it doesn't offer enough replayability or variety.
/>
>>MW2 delivers on the level of graphics and sound, but fails on story, variety, interest
level and online. Despite having a good campaign it was rushed and has just a to linear plot to
satisfy. It is still fun an the online will, for Call of duty fans, entertain for ages to come. But
for actual quality it definitely doesn't live up to it's predecessors, and quality was something I
certainly expected. Special ops are ok for some but will loose replayability when they are all
completed on veteran, which is a certainly possible feat for advanced players.
I Love:
The campaign is very fun.
Being able to choose what 3 killstreaks you want.
The
gorgous graphics.
Special ops are fun.
Sniping with Captain Price.
The amazing
sabatage mode.
I Hate:
The Linear and confusing plot.
Campers.
To
many killstreaks.
Carepackadges are annoying.
Ops get boring and offer small
replayability.
Online isn't as good as CoD 4 or 5.
Worse than: Call of duty 5
/>Better than: Medal of honor airborne/battlefield bad company.
I recommend: Call of duty
world at war.
VERDICT:
A great FPS with over rated online and a linear plot. Not
as good as Call of duty world at war.
Graphics: Amazing. Truly fabulous 9.3/10
/>Sound: Great, not as good as BFBC2 but still very satisfying. 9/10
Campaign: Fun and
enjoyable. But lacks variety, and is far to linear. 8.5/10
Special ops: Isn't as much fun as
Nazi zombies,, is fun but is rather repetitive and gives little replayability. 7.9/10
Online:
sabatage and Free-for-all is amazing. Worse than Cod 5. 7.9/10
