This is the best final fantasy game on the DS, (drawing with final fantasy 4).
Its also one of the best strategy games on the DS!
This deserves a 5 star fo definate.
Its fun, addictive, long lasting and the difficulty is perfect, not a pushover, but not too hard that you stop playing when you get beaten.
If you love final fantasy or strategy games or both, this is a game for you.
Graphics: 7/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Storyline 10/10! (it's AWESOME, really engaging aswell!)
Overall: 9,1/2 /10.

When I first got this game I wasn't sure what to expect; I hadn't played Final Fantasy XII on the PS2 so I knew that the story wouldn't make sense.

When I realised it was a tactics style game I thought that it was going to be rubbish as I have never been into tactics style games I prefer the original FF style game play.

After completing a few levels I was hooked; I started to realise how good this game actually is, once I had got to grips with the controls I had a different outlook on the game.

If your a fan of FF Tactics then this game is one to get. I recommend playing the FF 12 on PS2 first as this game is based after it.

Fun but hard

This game follows the standard idea of all final fantasy games yet was still original enough for me to find it enjoyable. Controls and directions were all fairly easy and while the graphics aren't great it doesn't detract from the game. This game quickly becomes very addictive as you keep wanting to do just one more level. Despite this I have rated the game at only 3 stars because once I'd completed about 70% of the game I got stuck. The levels simply became too hard, too quickly. I had so many 'game over' screens that the game stopped being enjoyable and I put it aside. The game was really good up until that point but in the end I got tired of dying and having to read through all the dialogue over and over again before I could play. Some people may not mind this but for me it became too repetitive.

rpg? or rts?

this is a bit of a departure for the final fantasy series on the DS as it isnt a typical straight forward RPG
it has the plot, which picks up nicely a year after the original game(which you dont need to have played to enjoy this game) of your standard FF fare
but the battle style and general game mechanic isnt RPG in the slightest
there is none of the random wandering about looking for clues that you have in the other games
no puzzles,no random battles that just appear out of nowhere
in this you control upto 5 characters with espers at their command and you use the touch screen to select them and then tell them where to go or who to fight
and this gives it a nice RTS style of gameplay
the only wandering you do is between the battlefields and you can go anyway that you like
its this element of freedom that personally i really like in the game
graphicallly its cracking, the score is fantastic as always and the plot is bland and purely there to lead you into more battles just like all the others are
if you want a pure RPG go and buy chrono trigger or FF III
if you want an easier to pick up and play game with all the story telling elements that make those games so impossible to but down then this might be a better place to start
