The award-winning Gran Turismo franchise returns with its 5th installment, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, exclusively for PlayStation 3. With its signature realism and unrivaled physics, this highly anticipated precursor to Gran Turismo 5 continues to blur the line between simulation and reality.

"Prologue" is defined as an introductory or preceding event or development, and true to every letter, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue treats both long-time fans of the Gran Turismo franchise as well as those coming to it new, with a generous sampling of what they can expect to see in Gran Turismo 5 later in the year and further releases on the PS3.

Developed By the Best
Polyphony Digital is the developer of the Gran Turismo franchise, led by creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Polyphony Digital is known for pushing the limits of the PlayStation hardware, and with its realistic graphics and physics, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is no different. In addition to receiving CAD data from the auto manufacturers, they have taken thousands of photos to model each car (and track). As an example of the level of detail, a car in Gran Turismo 4 has the same number of polygons as a headlight in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

Polyphony works even closer with the automotive industry to make sure that the cars look and drive just as they do in real life. In fact, Kazunori Yamauchi designed the on-board computer for the real Nissan GT-R. If you’re lucky to buy one when it releases, you will notice the Polyphony Digital logo when you start your car.

Take Your Cars and Tracks Online and Off
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue features over 60 stunning cars – including vehicles by Lotus, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Ferrari for you to race on seriously realistic, real-life tracks: including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka – all rendered in incredible High Definition graphics. There's also all-new driving physics for the most lifelike driving experience ever and new, improved opponent artificial intelligence for the toughest race challenge yet.

But that's not all – for the first time ever in the history of Gran Turismo, players will now be able to race online. Up to 16 players will be able to go head-to-head on some of the world's best racetracks on PlayStation Network. All you need to get racing is a broadband connection and PS3. Once you're up and revving, Global Online Rankings and the My Garage homepage feature will leave the world in n o doubt as to just who is the best at Gran Turismo.

And then there's the Online Dealership, providing a wealth of information on cars and manufacturers and also Gran Turismo TV – a dedicated online channel available exclusively from PSN and packed with some of the greatest content that Motorsport, car manufacturers and TV has to offer.

too complicated and confusing

It is not the best game in the world, because you get Class S which is so hard, it takes ages just to do it and when we finally completed that, I was hoping for the Ferrari F2007 (F1 Car.) to be our prize but you get this GT-R which is good, but it says you get the super licence to buy the F1 car and then you go to the dealerships for it is to say that you can't buy it and you must be stupid just to play this game until you get 2 million in which you need to buy the car. It's just not good enough, and you have to waste all your money just to buy any car on it.

On the brighter side, the graphics are top-notch and the replays you can watch of races is spectacular. You can do Top Gear Power Laps if you had more vehicles.

Brilliant

For any fan of the GT series, this is an absolute must buy, and will tide you over until GT5 is finally released! Graphice, gameplay and sound effects are all brilliant. Variety is somewhat limited (but only when compared with previous 'full fat' versions of GT. There is plenty of content here to keep you entertained for a long time, although there are points when it can get a little repetitive (like, when you are trying to save up to buy the next exotic car), otherwise it is a brilliant driving game, and a worthy addition to the games library of any driving game fan.

Superb preview of GT5

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is excellent.

I have always been a fan of the series but this really does take the biscuit the graphics are stunning and the motion is incredibly fluid it easy to appreciate the 60 frames per second. The cockpit view is a very welcome addition and as well as increasing the immersion of the game it also provides a greater sense of speed whilst driving and being able to peek out your side windows as you pass an opponent is just a damn cool.

Since purchasing the game I have also got the steering wheel to match which is also very impressive and once you get used to it, it becomes hard to imagine playing a racing game without it.

As mentioned in other reviews there are only 6 tracks each with two variations but its a good mix and although they are few in number you'll find yourself getting addicted to trying to master your racing line for each in different classes of vehicle. One track that I would have really liked to play though which isn't included is my all time GT favourite 'Trial Mountain' but I guess I'll just have to wait for the final game.

Despite there only being about 30 main races to clear split into 3 classes it doesn't feel like a short game because the gameplay is so spot on it's really a joy not a labour to play them again and again trying to better your driving skills.

The online is ok but a bit limited in scope, you choose from one of a series of events and then are matched against other players with similar level cars- it would be nicer if there was more flexibility so you could set your own custom events and it does take a considerable amount of time getting you into a race which breaks up the pace of the online because you'll be waiting the equivalent of a couple of laps on the high speed ring to get into the next event you choose.

In terms of value I really don't understand why people liken it to paying for a jumped up demo disc, when there are many many hours of enjoyment to be had from it and it only costs like 15 quid in the first place- I would argue quite the opposite that you get a lot for your money just for the sheer amount of time you will end up sinking into it.

If you like racing sims and own a PS3 this is a must buy and if your serious about getting the most fun out of it the steering wheel is too.

I give it 4/5 overall just because its a big tease and makes me want see what the final version will be like.

GT5 will be impressive

only 1 player unless you go online so ive heard. not tried even tho there is a menu for 2 players but that must be online? menus are still slow music boring but graphics are great. you can tune your car but i prefered the old method where you can add turbos etc. this game can be either very easy or impossible! there is new rules on certain tracks where you can only tune your car so much, which i dont remember being on the last game where you get penilized for ramming or taking short cuts. this makes it hard enough without obviously starting last, getting penilized for them ramming you. but they dont get penilized for taking short cuts etc. also if you come off the track with bad driving (so i've heard) when you getting back on it says youve taken a short cut. that was the last straw. just hope the proper version is better cuz i thought gt was the best driving game out there untill now. wait for the new one which is out soon
