It's OK

As a cordless phone it is great, as a messanger phone it works when first booted flawlessly but only reliabaly on first use, a reboot solves problem... It would be nice if it could be configured for calls out on skype etc or other services for greater compatability.

Technology works but only just, next model may be better but overall works well within limited access.

4331 VOIP only compatible with Windows Live Messenger.

I bought this product through Amazon a few months ago with the intention to use it as my home phone and also to make international calls using Windows Live Messenger's pre-pay service for making calls to landlines (Verizon Web Calling).

When I installed it I was very disappointed to learn that I could only purchase credit for the Verizon service using Amex or Diners Club credit cards. Consequently I never used the VOIP function of the phone.

Today, I learnt that the Verizon service is no longer available at all. I am now stuck with a very useless Philips VOIP phone.

The fact that this phone's VOIP function can only be used with Windows Live Messenger and now can't even be used to phone anyone other than other MSN users severely restricts its usefulness.

Poor quality, takes out ADSL and limited

Mine is going back 1st thing Monday. Firstly there is a grating noise/hiss on the line (which does not happen at all with my Siemens DECT phone - so it is the VOIP433 (I've spent ages swapping things round and it is the VOIP 433).
It is limited e.g. only very short names in the phone book and very short numbers in the phone book so I cannot program in my low cost carrier prefix (number becomes too long - unlike my existiing Siemens !!).

As soon as I take it off hook it "takes out" my ADSL (yes I've got filters, etc. and the Siemens plugged into the same socket allows the ADSL to carry on fine !!

Screen display is poor quality - though that's not too important. Limited ringing tones, etc. Some really irritating things that just make it like most Philips things e.. no lower case letters available in the phone book. Its like they have not taken any trouble in making the thing - sort of quick, get it out. Seems a lot of places are trying to sell their stock off cheap (I purchased mine for £35 in a high street shop) - but it is not worth that much.

I would say mine is faulty except it works - just badly !!

Nice Phone For the Price

The phone arrived this morning, even with free delivery, it arrived well before the estimate.

Firstly, if you want this phone, buy it here, I purchased the exact same phone from a mail order catalogue for £92.00!(It had to be returned because of a fault) I felt quite sick when I saw the price on Amazon!

It is easy to set up and I got it going within minutes. As a DECT phone it works well, but if you want fancy ringers, etc you might be disappointed. It has a phonebook feature caller display and a speaker phone. Even as just a DECT phone, it is well worth the money, in my opinion.

Where it comes into its own is the voip feature. Please remember it only works with Windows Live Messenger. If you use the voice feature of this program, then you will like this. Make sure you have WLM installed and the phone will pick it up. (I am using XP Home, I can't speak for other operating systems.) Once it is all set up, you can talk to your contacts, wherever you are. Even via the speakerphone. If you are away from the computer, it tells you if a contact comes online, via the screen and with optional sound too.

The only downside is that it doesn't work with other voip programs, but for £19.99, it is a minor quibble!

very nice phone weird prices though

i would recommend this to anyone who have windows live messenger and that uses the voice chat because its plug and play you just plug it in and change the voice setting in the audio options and ur ready to go works well with xp and vista. the onli weird thing is, is the prices. the single handset is £20 but the twin is £99 and iv checked i can find the twin set any cheaper so if u want 2, id suggest by 2 of the single handsets and connect it to the 1 hub and its stores all the hubs in range so you can change it back just by selecting it.
